ALPINE – November 16, 2011 – A 52 year old man from El Cajon was driving on eastbound Interstate 8 at a high rate of speed, based of witness reports, when he slammed in to the back of a slow-moving semi truck. The driver was reported to have been going well in excess of the posted 65mph speed limit, and the semi truck driver was estimated at 40mph which is common in the steep areas Interstate 8 in far east county. The driver may not have seen the semi due to a crest in the highway, not seeing it until it was too late. The trailer was heavily loaded and required airbags to be lifted before the vehicle could be pulled from underneith the it. SOT: CHP PIO Brian Pennings
